Body contouring is usually performed for those patients who have lost large amounts of weight, either by diet or gastric surgery. Body contouring typically refers to a series of operations, designed to remove excess fat and skin and improve the contours of the body. The first and most notable procedure is called a belt lipectomy, also known as a “body lift”. In this operation, not only is the abdomen improved, removing the excess skin and fat in front but also the operation extends around the sides and back to include removal of the excess skin and fat of the flanks above the hips and buttocks.
After a belt lipectomy, many patients will choose to undergo arm, back, breast, face and thigh lifts as well, for total body rejuvenation. Plans for body contouring surgery need to be customized based on each patient’s needs, goals and skin condition.
You will wear a support garment for 6 weeks post surgery and will have 2 drains in place for 1 and 2 weeks.
Due to the length under anesthesia, you will be admitted overnight, for observation. Remember, safety first.
